Welcome to Intersectionalia® the Intersectionality Training Institute’s (ITI) new blog!
If you’re thinking, Intersectionalia, Intersectionalia, where have I heard that name before? Intersectionalia was the name of the monthly newsletter that we launched in 2024. We love the name Intersectionalia (so much so that we trademarked it!). Thus, transferring the name to our new blog was a no-brainer.
Why resurrect Intersectionalia as a blog? Well, we’re all so inundated with pulls on our attention spans, even when we’re keenly interested in a topic. There’s just so little time for long-form reading. To this end, blog posts will be brief (1200 words or fewer), include a TLDR (too long didn’t read) summary, key takeaways, and where relevant, FAQs, and links to related ITI programs and offerings.
As for content, you’ll find recaps of our engaging monthly Intersectionality Salons, answers to many of the questions we’re frequently asked about intersectionality; our takes on various intersectionality-related topics, articles, news and happenings; resource and reference lists; and my reflections on whatever intersectionality-related thing I’m inspired to write about.
When relevant, you’ll also find calls to action. Why? Well, the great Patricia Hill Collins reminds us in her 2015 article, Intersectionality’s Definitional Dilemmas (one of my favorites!) that intersectionality is not just a field of study or analytic strategy, intersectionality is about the doing of social justice work. The action steps are our reminder to you that intersectionality is fundamentally about the application of this critical framework to social justice practice. It’s not enough to just read about intersectionality, you gotta do it!
