About the Series
You followed all the steps. Got your doctorate. Got the academic job. You got tenure or the promotion or may still be on the track to get tenure or the other promotion. Regardless, you now find yourself in the most chaotic, fraught, turbulent and uncertain time to be a professor or academic researcher. The monumental madness of contemporary academic life notwithstanding, you still have work to do. And lots of it — the writing, the finding time to write, the publishing, the responding to reviewers, the rejection — if you’re going to accomplish your professional goals. It’s never been harder, but ITI has got your back.
The Gómez HOPE Lab Professional Development Series is a publicly available website chock full of user-friendly and tactical resources for teaching and research faculty and staff. This valuable resource has been developed and curated since 2019 by our own (as we always say, if you’ve been through any ITI program, we claim you first!) Dr. Jennifer M. Gómez. Dr. Gómez is a member of ISI 2023 cohort, was one of the luck attendees at ITI’s 2025 writing retreat in The Bahamas, and was our guest for her riveting November 2025 salon: “Is It All Cultural Betrayal? From Intersectional Oppression to Dreamstorming A World of Peace and Equality.”
Dr. Gómez doesn’t simply dreamstorm, however. As the multiple useful guides to academic career success that she has published affirm, she strategizes, plans, and relies on specific tactics for success.
She’s always been committed to sharing what she’s learned with others on the academic career path.
And as Dr. Gómez’s own academic success attests, her strategies are tried and true.
The above video is a snippet from the November 2025 Intersectionality Research Salon, where Dr. Gómez discussed her approach to sole-authoring articles and books.
