Salon Description:
For a year spanning December 2020 through December 2021, George Ayala, PsyD, Sannisha Dale, PhD, Carmen Logie, PhD, and Lisa Bowleg, PhD, MA collaborated as guest editors for the special supplement, “Addressing HIV-Related Intersectional Stigma and Discrimination to Improve Public Health Outcomes” published in the American Journal of Public Health in June 2022. The supplement was funded by the Office of AIDS Research and the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In what promises to be (yet another) lively salon, the guest editors — joined by the supplement’s organizers and funders, Gregory Greenwood, PhD, MPH, Branch Chief at NIMH, Paul Gaist, PhD, MPH, Senior Advisor to the Director at the NIH Office of AIDS Research, and Amber Wilson, MPH of the NIH Office of AIDS Research — will discuss their experiences collaborating on the special supplement, some of the strengths of examining HIV through the prism of intersectional stigma, share their ongoing struggles and critiques of the concept of intersectional stigma, and highlight their visions and hopes for the future of intersectionality and intersectional stigma in HIV research. We also anticipate that several of the authors who published articles in the Special Supplement will join for their take on the salon’s topic.
