Intro to Intersectionalia

What Is Intersectionalia?

Launched in January 2024,  Intersectionalia (/ˌintərˈsekSH(ə)nəlˈnālyə/) is the Intersectionality Training Institute’s (ITI) new monthly newsletter.  Intersectionalia consists of 6 sections:

1. Musings & Marginalia is where ITI Founder and President, Dr. Lisa Bowleg will greet you with a blog-like introduction.

2. In the Know About Intersectionality, is where we’ll share key insights about the application of intersectionality to research, writing manuscripts, dissertations, and grant proposals.

3. The C3 (“the three Cs”) section is an alliterative nod to intersectionality luminaries: Combahee River Collective, Patricia Hill Collins, and Kimberlé Crenshaw.” Intersectionalia‘s C3 represents another alliterative set: Community, Collective, and Collaboration. This is where we’ll document the different intersectionality-related things happening in our community: your publications, grants, presentations, and other things of interests, and interviews with our community about your work.

4. This, That, & The Other is where we’ll highlight all manner of intersectionality-related things old and new. You’ll find books, snippets of quotes, poetry, job or fellowship, openings, grant proposal opportunities, media articles, and maybe even a song lyric or two.

5. Salon Takeaways recaps, complete with Zoom chat resources, highlights from our monthly Intersectionality Research Salons.

6. Finally, ITI Happenings will be the place to learn about new or upcoming trainings, publications, or anything ITI-related.

But here’s the thing about Intersectionalia: other than Musings & Marginalia and the Salon Takeaways, you’ll never know which combination of the sections you’re going to get.  Intersectionalia will be like going to your favorite restaurant where you can always count on getting delicious and nutritious food.  You just never know what’s going to be on the menu.

Intersectionalia will arrive before the next Intersectionality Research Salon (always the 2nd Wednesday of the month).  It may arrive a week before, a few days before, or at 4:59 pm the day of the Salon.  As far as we’re concerned, it’s still before the next Salon.  We hope that you love Intersectionalia!
